College of Engineering, Professor
UMass Video Profile Series Transcript :Aura Ganz

It's kind of difficult for an electrical engineer to find this kind of calling. Each one of us needs to look at the tools they have in their hand, and how these tools can make a difference. PERCEPT is an indoor navigation project for the blind and visually impaired. We deploy electronic techs in the environment at specific landmarks. And the visually impaired person can get detailed instructions how to reach the desired destination. It will enable them to be independent, which will significantly improve their quality of life. There is no better satisfaction than to help other people. The electrical engineer concept that we use can all be applied to the betterment of the world, as well as enhance research. UMass is an excellent school. The professors are really first class, so are the students. And my own son came here. It's an amazing university for them to come and join, and contribute to the future of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. I'm Aura Ganz, a professor of electrical and computer engineering. I stand for pursuing socially responsible projects. And I stand for UMass.
