UMass is everything. It was the beginning of my adult experience. My longtime interest had always been music. So I moved to New York City, I didn't know anybody, it was a huge move, it was very intimidating. I was meeting with a lot of artists and trying to get them on iTunes, get catalogs on iTunes and all that. I moved from working with this digital distribution company. And I took the job, it was telecommuting, so what I would do is I'd go out and I find all these artists were kind of on the rise but they had not exploded, by any means. And I went out and tried to find those artists and then book them for events, tie-in the brands that I was working with. What one of the acts that I booked was the now late DJ AM Adam Goldstein. I was booking so many bands that I kept discovering all this new music. I would send it to him to him and say Adam you've got to check this out, you should play this in a set. One day he turned to me and said, Lindsay, you should be a DJ. And one day I was in between jobs, I was waiting to find that next big music business job, and I started doing it as a hobby, teaching myself at a club in New York City. And eventually the owners of the club saw me working so hard they said, we're going to give you a night. A lot of fashion brands caught on. They said, oh wow, not only can she spin the right music for our brand, but she can wear our brand and she could look the part and be the part. Eventually, I had people saying why don't we do a collaboration? You know a lot about fashion, you know a lot about music, let's do something together. I can no longer just say I'm a DJ. It's now like, I'm a DJ, and I work in hospitality, and I design collaborations. I love UMass because you get so many different things out of it. I really found there that I could try different classes that suited my needs. It wasn't just one offering like some campuses have. I was able to find classes that really did speak to what I wanted to do with my career in some way, but they also kept me intrigued. It's been the backbone for a lot of what I've done. I'm Lindsay Luv. I'm a DJ, sound stylist, lifestyle liaison, designer. I stand for reaching for the stars and being one, and I stand for UMass.
